By the Lake

There was a party behind me. Australians, Koreans, Japanese, Malaysians, Thais. It was a poolside party hosted as a welcome session for the debaters in Australasians.

Eating. Laughing. Swimming. Dancing. Smoking.

Fun.

I stood beside the lake near the pool. It was at night. The water was calm, the moon was clearly reflected in the calm waters of the pool. The occassional breeze brought few ripples on the surface.

Surely it was a familiar sight. I've been by the lake before at a different place at a different time on a different occassion.

With different people.

Like that lake, back then, there was no party. No noise. No chaos. No loud music.

Just the company of a quiet person that would listen. The assurance of a friend that was always there. Sitting opposite me surrounded with the music of nature and the songs of the birds. A light chat, some giggling, but other than that there wasn't even much talking. Just enjoying the presence and the company of that person.

That night, that person was far away. I looked up into the clear dark skies, looking out for a star.

Where have the stars gone to? Where is the company that I look for when I need it the most?

I sighed.

The stars are not seen. The company is not found.

But they are still there.

It's just that we can't see them. It's just that we need to find them. And find it harder.

The only solace I took by standing at the lake this time, were the memories of the last time I stood by a lake. The person that made me realise that the stars will never fade. Not until we think they have.

Remember the stars bro? The stars may not shine as many or as brightly as they used to, but as long as they still shine, they are a constant reminder that God is there :D

Haha.. just what you've told me once before.. in fact, even if they don't shine, we know God is there! hehe.. take care right bro :)

But as I looked up the sky again, a slight shine caught my attention. It was something... peculiar, I must say. Though commonly seen, it was rather new to me - it bore a fresh odd bitter-sweet taste on my tongue and jerked my heart with a faint push.

I blinked at it. I wondered what petite light it was. A meteor? It couldn't be; meteors should be far more beautiful, with its tail tailing behind like a temple of golden robe shining majestically behind, trailing it like a petty servant.

I raised my head more and blinked again as the slight breeze pushed past the pool beside me and fondled my eyes. What a sensation of oddity. I made up my mind: it was a star.

In the past, this quiet person's company had the same odd effect on me, but I couldn't see why the nostalgia couldn't do so. I smiled. I looked at the pool, its water - collected and resigned - seemed to be a visionary portal where the past danced before me - yet, once again.

A curl twisted my lips upward at one side. I sighed, but with assurance. It was happen again. Soon, though the time was unknown to me, but soon.

I stood and looked up at the sky again but found the star disappeared. Where was it?

By then, I understood what it meant: memories were always memories. None could alter it, none could complain about it; but I could use it - for worse for better, I decide.

My decision made today will one day turn around and make me.

I like your posts - they have a musician's taste (at least to me, currently). Hope to read more of them soon. And work on your stories. Definitely interesting. But caught my attention first was the heading. Good job.

Drop by my blog soon, hope I can learn something from you - maybe the ability to pen down thoughts and nostalgia better or whatever it might be - and perhaps, if possible, befriend you. :)

Hope to hear your comments about my posts too (but I haven't blogged about stories for quite some time. If you're interested about the stories I've written, perhaps you can drop by my blog's short story link):
